Simply Seaweed, €9.95, Mungo Murphy’s

If you’re wondering if something smells a little fishy at the minute, that might be us. We have a lot of love for natural products at Her.ie, and for Irish companies, so we’re very excited by the arrival of  Mungo Murphy’s Seaweed Co. We’ve been busy putting their 100% natural, seaweed bath products to the test. Mungo Murphy’s Seaweed Co. bath products contain the brown algae species native to Ireland, namely; Laminaria Digitata (Sea Kelp), Fucus Vesiculosis (Bladder Wrack) and Fucus Serratus (Serrated Wrack), all of which are collected and hand harvested from the wild Atlantic shores of Connemara. These brown seaweeds are a wonderful source of Fucoidan – a powerful natural anti-inflammatory – and of course, are a great natural source of the mineral iodine – essential for a healthy functioning thyroid and in turn, a healthy functioning metabolism. In addition, these brown seaweeds contain the full spectrum of organic vitamins and trace minerals that, when soaked in a bathtub, can be readily absorbed by the skin.“Due to the wealth of vitamins and minerals contained in the brown seaweed used in our bath products, our seaweed baths can be used to detoxify the body, stimulate blood circulation, reduce skin imperfections, soften stiff muscles and may also serve to alleviate the symptoms of psoriasis, acne and dry skin,” says founder of Mungo Murphy’s Seaweed Co., Sinead O’Brien.

Advanced Pigment Corrector, €100, SkinCeuticals

While the vast majority of us would balk at the thought of spending €100 on a beauty product, for those suffering with hyperpigmentation no price is too high for a solution that works. With age, all skin types develop hyperpigmentation, and studies have shown that over half of females between the ages of 35-59 cite discolouration and uneven skin tone as a more significant concern than loss of firmness. After years of chronic UV exposure, hormonal fluctuations and inflammation, skin can develop stubborn and deep rooted discolouration, susceptible to reoccurrence, even following treatment. SkinCeuticals Advanced Pigment Corrector features two high potency ingredients; clinically tested to work as efficiently as the leading pigment correcting ingredients to reduce skin discolouration: Ellagic Acid, shown in-vivo to be as effective as 4% hydroquinone in reducing dark spots and hyperpigmentation, and Hydroxyphenoxy Propionic Acid, a non-Toxic derivative of hydroquinone shown in-vivo to be as effective as 2% kojic acid to diminish the appearance of discolourations. The product works on several levels to exfoliate existing spots at the stratum corneum, inhibit melanin transfer at the epidermis, block excess melanin production at the basal layer, strengthen dermal layers to prevent against new and reoccurring pigment, enhance the skin’s resistance to new pigmentation and improve the skin’s luminosity for renewed radiance.
