Contouring Your Hair Is Now A Real Thing

Where will it stop?!

Cathy Donohue

Contouring is a beauty trend that shows no sign of waning and although it started with facial features, it’s got much bigger since.

In case you were interested, there’s now a way to contour your vagina (yes really) and hair colour experts are currently talking about hair contouring.

Nick Penna, a hair colourist based in Boston, chatted to Allure recently and gave his take on the hair contouring craze.

“Hair contouring uses freehand colouring and highlighting to enhance face shapes.

“Highlighting and shading certain parts of the hair can create the illusion of a different face shape, depending on what you want to accentuate.

Penna said Sarah Jessica Parker is the perfect example of contouring…

“Just like the makeup technique, light shades are for highlighting and darker shades are for creating a shadow effect”.

Nick said that although hair contouring is similar to balayage, it takes it up another notch.

“Hair contouring is basically taking balayage one step further and strategically placing the colour in certain spots to highlight and contour, rather than just being focused on painting on the colouring in an attempt to make the varied shades of lighter strands look like they appeared naturally from the sun”.

This is a trend we might just have to try…
