‘Cosy blonde’ is the low-maintenance hair colour we all want this autumn

Love it.

September is here, and there is no denying it anymore that autumn has well and truly arrived.

The mornings are crisp, the evenings are darker and soon we’ll be getting the thicker coats and boots and hats out from the back of the wardrobe and brace ourselves for winter that will be around the corner.

I don’t know about you, but I find the best way to beat seasonal blues is to just change up something and have so fun. Such as for instance, your hair colour.

And if you, like me, are in the market for a bit of a beauty shake-up with your hair colour, you might want to know about this trend, which experts predict will be the most requested hair colour this autumn.

Cosy blonde

Say hello to ‘cosy blonde’ – the most perfect autumn shade of all time.

“Cozy blonde is a toned-down version of your summer blonde and a great transition into fall, says Jennifer Korab, hairstylist and owner of Renaissance Salon & Spa to Glamour magazine.

“This blonde generally consists of warmer tones and golden blonde, Korab continues, pointing to Jennifer Lopez and Hailey Bieber’s hair as classic examples of cosy blonde.

Others agree:

“Cosy blonde is a term used to describe a super low-maintenance approach to being blonde,” says Michelle Cleveland.

Cleveland, who is a celebrity hair extension artist and Wella master colour expert, explains:

“The look embraces more depth in the hair with low lights and strategic placement of lighter blonde shades, allowing for a low-maintenance blonde that works for any season,” she adds, pointing to Ciara’s medium-blonde shade as a prime example.

According to Korab, the shade is great for natural blondes, anyone with highlights or balayage, and light brunette hair. However, it also works for anyone that’s currently blonde, whether it’s dyed or natural.

Cleveland adds:

“Anyone who feels a little washed out from the overall brightness [of their blonde] usually transitions very well into wearing this look – and it also applies to those who are tired of upkeep that is too time-consuming, expensive, or damaging.”

She explains:

“In this case, your stylist can create a cosy blonde that gives you the best of both worlds.”

What to ask for

If you’re planning to dye your hair cosy blonde, here’s what to ask for at the salon.

“Cosy blonde has a lot of dimension to the hair,” Korab says.

“You can achieve the look by adding lowlights and asking for a golden or honey blonde, but you want to keep the face frame bright while adding fine lowlights throughout,”

Just remember: Low maintenance does not mean any maintenance. “

That’s the biggest mistake clients make when moving into a look such as this,” Cleveland says.

“It’s super low-maintenance compared to being an all-over blonde, but still requires some upkeep to keep the colour looking fresh.”
