How to avoid the dreaded bikini rash after shaving

Shaving is quick and convenient but rushing this process can leave you with painful red bumps and no one wants that. We’ve chatted before about how shaving in the right direction can eliminate the chance of a bikini rash but there’s another step you can take. The good news is it will lessen the likelihood of a rash developing thanks to good hygiene practice but be warned, it will add a few minutes to your bathroom routine. Sanitising your razor with warm water and a couple of drops of rubbing any alcohol will remove bacteria and ensure your razor is okay to use again. However, once the blades show any sign of rusting, bin it immediately. Dendy Engelman, NYC-based Managing Director of Manhattan Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, spoke to Women’s Health and recommended that blades need to be replaced after five to seven shaves. When your razor is sitting on the bathroom shelf for too long, it’s a breeding ground for bacteria - HELLO BIKINI RASH. If you can remember, and it’s not too bad once you get in the habit, store your razor in a cool dry place which should help them to last that little bit longer.
