Dyson new Airwrap

They say if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

But it seems Dyson has gone and done just that.

It has been four years since the brand’s now-iconic Airwrap launched back in 2018, and blew us all away. This was a hair styler that sort of looked like a curling wand, but worked in a completely different way and managed to create the most beautiful loose curls all without damaging our hair with excessive heat.

Dry, smooth, curl, and volume to all hair types with less heat and damage – is it any wonder the Airwrap broke the mould and became one of the most coveted beauty tools of all time.

However, now the clever brains at Dyson have shared that the Airwrap has been “radically redesigned”, and revealed that the new multi-styler also features a range of new and reworked attachments that will make doing your hair even easier and faster.

The biggest upgrade is the fact that the new Airwrap can dry the hair from wet to dry, and the different sized barrel brush attachments and wands, which will allow you to create curls of different sizes and will give you more options when it comes to the end result.

So what’s new?

  • Coanda smoothing dryer: The upgraded attachment now combines the power of the brand’s Flyaway attachment with the traditional dryer. “Quickly take hair from wet to damp in pre-style mode or finish your style by hiding flyaways in smoothing mode. Coanda airflow attracts and lifts longer hairs, hiding flyaways out of sight for a smoother, shiny finish,” notes the release.
  • Firm and soft brushes: You’ll now get more use out of the brushes with increased airflow for straighter, smoother results thanks to enhanced Coanda airflow. Large and soft, small and large brushes are available.
  • Airwrap barrels: Perhaps the biggest upgrade, the new Airwrap curling barrels allow you to switch airflow direction as you style with just one attachment. No more swapping barrels for the left side and right side. “Create clockwise and anti-clockwise curls with one barrel to reduce styling time. Available in 30mm, 40mm, 30mm long, 40mm long, and 20mm long for a range of styles,” notes the release.

“Most styling tools ignore that hair types are very different—what attachment may work for one, could be detrimental to another,” explains James Dyson about the new launch.

“The advancements in the Dyson Airwrap multi-styler build on the success of its predecessor, through relentless research, user trials and advancements in computational fluid dynamics. The result: direction change barrels for faster and easier curling, re-engineered brush attachments for more precise shaping, and an entirely new, dual-purpose Coanda smoothing dryer. Our ability to control airflow delivers enhanced Coanda performance to curl, shape and hide flyaways—without extreme heat.”

What if you already own the old one?

Fear not if you already spent good money on the first generation Airwrap. You do not need to buy the brand new version to avail of all the upgrades, but rather, will be able to buy the new attachments individually. You can either opt for individual attachment depending on your needs and wants, or, if you want the full suite of new attachments like the curling barrels in both long and short, the new dryer, and the new brushes, these can also be bought as a set.

The new generation Dyson Airwrap will be priced at €549, and Dyson will launch the new Multi-Styling Airwrap at the end of March online.
