We're stocking up.

There’s a lot of hype bandied about when it comes to superfoods with experts extolling their supposed health benefits.

While some of this may be over the top, there are one or two essentials that you should aim to include in your diet.

Case in point, elderberry. It is said to boost immunity and your skin which sounds like a double whammy we can get on board with.

Dietician Kerry Glassman spoke to Byrdie about how elderberry works to protect against the common cold and flu: “The special combo of polyphenols found in elderberries is what gives them their immunity-boosting power.

“Research has shown that these compounds can help treat colds and flus by helping the body fight viruses and bacteria”.

“Elderberries are packed with antioxidants, especially anthocyanins, which gives them their dark rich color.

“These compounds have been shown to reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, and even help fight cancer, in addition to stimulating the immune system” continued Kerry.

Chatting about how elderberry can benefit the skin, co-founder of Elemis Skincare, Noella Gabriel explained that it works in two ways.

Firstly, it fights off free radicals and secondly it helps to improve the skin’s texture and elasticity.
