The five summer products to stash in your suitcase

Cathy Donohue

Packing for holidays is one of those pain in the ass, tedious jobs that somehow always goes wrong.

You leave something behind, your case is overweight or worse again, goes missing in transit and when you finally get there, you’ll realise that nothing you brought even goes together.

GAH.

However, there’s one part of packing that can be easily put right, the products you need while in a sunny climate.

Mini versions, cult products and multi-taskers are your new BFFs.

Kérastase Micro-Voile Protecteur, €25

Your hair gets a hard time on holidays. The sun’s harmful UV rays are extremely harsh and before you know it, your shiny locks are dry, wiry and out of control. A protective spray is an absolute must for your holiday beauty kit and this leave-in one is water resistant with anti-humidity and anti-frizz properties. Throw it into your beach bag and reapply throughout the day, minimising any potential damage.

Percy & Reed, Eau My Goodness Shine & Fragrance Spray, €14

This is a mini product so it’s holiday perfect and does the work of two products: a perfume and a shine spray, taking up less room in your suitcase. Percy & Reed has just launched a new range of Mix & Match minis with the Shine & Fragrance spray proving a favourite of hair guru himself, Mr Adam Reed.

Kiehl’s Butterstick Lip Treatment SPF 25, €22.50

This new launch contains the all-important SPF, an absolute must for holiday packing. You might presume that your usual go-to lip balm contains SPF but the majority of them don’t unless specified, so make sure you do a diligent check before purchasing. This Kiehl’s pick contains a nourishing blend of butter and oils which keep your lips hydrated, 12 hours after application.

Bioderma Max Aquafluide SPF 50+ Teinte, €13.50

This budget buy is new on the scene but it’s already getting a lot of attention. It provides high protection with an SPF of 50, is water-resistant, dries to touch-proof in a couple of seconds and provides a hint of colour so you don’t have to go completely bare-faced either. We can pretty much guarantee that you’ll have this used up before the end of your holiday.

MAC In Extreme Dimension Waterproof Lash, €25.50

If there’s one product that we can’t go without, it has to be mascara. It instantly makes you look more awake and even when you’re going for a ‘no makeup’ makeup look, voluminous lashes are essential. This particular pick separates, lengthens and curls lashes and for a no-smudge, non-clump, non-flake waterproof formula, we’re willing to part with our hard-earned cash.
