Geode hair has arrived and it is seriously gorgeous

Another new trend for 2017.

If you feel like giving your locks a makeover for the summer months, then you have to see ‘geode hair’.

Although some have likened it to rainbow hair, there’s a major difference as this results in a much more muted effect than the colourful hues of last year’s big trend.

Geode hair or iridescent hair involves jewel tones in one or more shades and thankfully, this trend is kinder to your hair as you don’t have to go overboard with the bleach to achieve it.

So, the technical explanation for a geode is a “spherical rock that holds cavities lined with crystals” and geode hair gets its name because the tones used are similar to the depth and colour of said crystals.

The most popular tones are shades of muted lilac and amethyst but fuschia, blue and pink tones have been used by some colourists.

The look is achieved by lightening the ends of the hair to almost white blonde and then toning them. Then the magic starts with the darker jewel shades on the bottom, merging into lighter as you travel up the hair.

However, not every hair guru is following this method and many are experimenting with lighter on the bottom and darker or top or simply interspersing them throughout the hair, resulting in a number of different, yet equally stunning looks.

Here are just a few examples of geode hair in action…
