If you walk into a Halloween party with a show-stopping hairstyle, you won’t have to explain your costume to anybody.

Halloween is a great time to play around with your locks and have some fun. If you haven’t yet sorted out your outfit for the weekend then panic not, we’ve been all over Instagram looking for gorgeous hair looks for you to try out.

1. Minnie Mouse Hair

Why buy mouse ears when you can make them? These perfect little buns won’t fall off mid-party or get left lost halfway through the night. You can use the same technique to make ears for other animal costumes so you and the squad can go full-on menagerie.

  1. Part your hair and gather into a ponytail on each side before securing with elastics.
  2. Pull one loop of the elastic out from the ponytail and make a loop of hair over your thumb. Tuck the end of the ponytail through the loop. Secure the loop of hair in place with another elastic.
  3. Spread out the hair in your loop to make a U-shape.
  4. Tuck the ends up into your ear bun, securing in place with a bobby pin. Repeat on the other side.

2. Daenerys Targaryen

The Game of Thrones ladies have some of the coolest and most intricate hairstyles around, from Cersei and Margery to Melisandre and Sansa. However, we’re particularly drawn to the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen, and think this video captures her majestic ‘do perfectly.

    1. Curl your hair
    2. Leaving the front section of your hair free, start tightly twisting your hair from the parting, incorporating more hair from the side of your head as you work down. When your twist reaches the nape of your neck, secure with an elastic.
    3. Repeat step 2 on the other side of your head.
    4. Once both sections of hair are twisted, secure together with a clear hair elastic.
    5. Use a hair braiding tool to thread any necklace of your choice through your twisted braids. Make sure your necklace is long enough to leave the ends dangling.

     3. Mermaid Locks

From Nicola Hughes’ pink locks and Rhianna’s sea blue tresses to Lady Gaga’s vibrant turquoise – mermaid-inspired hair is the celeb-approved look we want this Halloween.

We’re not always up for chucking a load of fake blood onto our pretty new frock. Sometimes we want to look… well, nice. So this year we are shunning our wigs and blood and vamping up our Halloween vibes with these magical mermaid locks. With the below tutorial, you can get fab mermaid strands in ten easy steps and in less than 30 minutes.

    4. Great Gatsby

A finger-waved faux bob paired with a sparkling headband or bobby-pinned hair necklace will have everyone oo-ing an ah-ing like you planned ahead for weeks.

If you love the Gatsby-like hairstyles that celebs have been flaunting, and want to recreate the look, here’s how to do it.

      1. Create a side parting above your eyebrow
      2. Curl your hair from your temple down and brush for loose waves
      3. Tuck and pin your hair into a bun at the nape of your neck to create a faux bob
      4. Then, pull a few strands loose at the front of your hair

      5. Zombie Hair

Embrace the spooky spirit with big, BIG hair.

      1. Add mousse to damp hair and blast dry hair upwards away from your head adding volume and lift.
      2. Once hair is dry, apply gel and start to tong the roots of random sections but straightening the ends with straightening irons.
      3. Brush the hair vigorously to break up the curly roots.
      4. Gently shake texturising powder into the hair and work your fingers into the roots creating a backcombed look.
