‘Glitter tongue’ is the latest beauty trend taking Instagram by storm

Is this... necessary?

Got so much glitter you don’t know where to put it?

Sure, why not try your tongue?

Or, if you’re not any way that inclined, don’t, because it honestly seems like a bit of hassle to us.

But that hasn’t stopped beauty bloggers and Instagrammers hopping on the ‘glitter tongue’ trend and sharing all of their dazzling (yet, let’s be honest, mildly inconveniently) pics online.

They’re fairly dedicated to the cause, in fairness.

‘Glitter tongue’ was discovered most recently by Australian makeup artist Jacinta Vukovic, who “accidentally” shared the trend one day when she was creating a metallic lip for herself.

On Instagram, she wrote that she accidentally got some glitter on her tongue and decided to “make it the focus” of the look.

It does look pretty cute, actually.

Naturally, Jacinta wasn’t the only one to start dipping her tongue in glitter.

There’s been plenty of other looks appearing online even before the Australian’s, but this time, bloggers had every intention of creating their glitzy look.

Of course, as with every new fad, there are many things to consider before going ahead and creating your own ‘glitter tongue’ look.

Obviously, edible glitter is the only product you should be using if you’re planning on putting it on your tongue or anywhere near your mouth.

Edible glitter can be bought from the baking sections of most supermarkets, so there’s no excuse for not putting safety first.

But at the end of the day, ‘glitter tongue’ does just seem like a bit of hassle.

You’d put it on, stick your tongue out, get maybe one or two pics, and then by the time you shut your mouth you would have consumed most of your look.

Unless you were planning on topping up your glitter every time you took a breath, ‘glitter tongue’ does seem to be a bit too transient for our liking.

The things people do for Instagram.
