Emirates 24/7 reports that the unnamed groom told a court in Algiers he was "shocked" when he woke the morning after the wedding to discover he didn't recognise his new bride.
Local newspapers in the North African Arab country report that the man swore in court he mistook his wife for a “thief who came to steal his apartment".
A court source quoted by one paper said: “He said she looked very beautiful and attractive before marriage, but when he woke up in the morning and found that she had washed the make-up off her face, he was frightened as he thought she was a thief.
