If you’ve splashed out on a curly blow dry, you’ll want it to last for as long as possible.

Aside from the usual tips like using dry shampoo to prolong your blowdry’s life and avoiding the rain (a little difficult when you live in Ireland), there are a couple of professional tips that should help.

I called in some expert help for this one and Galway-based hairdresser Aileen Donohue was happy to help.

Product

When you’re getting your hair done, the stylist will generally ask what type of products you would like in your hair.

If your hair is thick and unruly, hair oil might be your usual choice. However, when you’re after a big bouncy look, it might be better to opt for a mousse/volumiser as oils tend to weigh your hair down, causing your curls to collapse.

If you are trying to re-create a curly blow dry at home, using a shampoo and conditioner designed for your hair type is essential as the first step to voluminous locks.

Brushes

Try and work with small brushes as opposed to larger ones.

Smaller brushes allow for a tighter curl and this way, your curly locks won’t fall out AND they will last much longer.

Aftercare

To help your curl hold overnight, sleep with your hair in a bun or a loose ponytail.

Leaving it down in all its curly glory isn’t the best idea because if you move when sleeping, your hair is likely to go all over the place.

Not only will the waves fall out but you’ll also have stray static hairs popping up everywhere.

TRESemmé’s Beauty-Full Volume is rewriting the rules of voluminous hair by reversing the traditional haircare routine. For more information on the Beauty-Full Volume range, a reverse wash & care system for everyday volume, have a look here.
