Sweating off your makeup? This foundation might help it stay on

Sarah McKenna Barry

Turns out you can heatwave-proof your makeup routine.

Feel like the makeup is absolutely dripping off your face in this heat? You’re definitely not alone.

This week saw temperatures rise up to 30 degrees in some places, and we have definitely felt the impact of the heatwave on our faces.

As we come to terms with the sweltering bout of sunny weather, it can be hard to muster up the motivation to apply a full face of product, especially if you’re concerned it will melt away the second you step into the heat.

Having said that, it is possible to heatwave-proof your makeup by considering the products you pop on. The secret, as it turns out, lies in lightweight foundation.

As part of their summer makeup survival guide, Ayu, an Irish makeup brand, have said that the type of foundation you use is instrumental on sunny days.

If you want to doll up before heading out in this heat, it’s definitely worth heading their advice.

The cosmetics company, which is the brainchild of Irish MUA Suzie O’Neill, stresses the importance of keeping your base light, and their Ayu Fresh Skin Foundation sounds like just the ticket.

As the product is super lightweight, but highly pigmented, it’s perfect for sunny days.

On top of that, the vegan formula is enriched with Hyaluronic acid, a skincare ingredient that promotes hydration – which we love to see.

It also goes without saying that in this weather, it’s important to protect your skin from the sun generally. As the mercury continues to rise, a good SPF under your makeup is non-negotiable.

The Irish Cancer Society has urged the public to limit their time in the sun when the UV is strongest. This typically occurs between 11 am and 3 pm.

Additionally, adults should use sun protection with a factor of 30+, while children should wear at factor 50.
