Nail tattoos are officially a thing and they’ll take your manicure to a new level

Keeley Ryan

We’re…kind of intrigued.

There’s a new tattoo trend filling up our Instagram feeds – and they’re bringing manicures everywhere to a whole new level.

That’s right, you can now get your finger nails tattooed.

And, apparently, they’re relatively pain free.

Ambie Stapleton and Christian Boyd are the folks behind the New York-based tattoo shop pop-up, Needle Nails.

Boyd told Insider that he was inspired to begin creating the minimalistic designs when he saw an inking by the Instagram-famous celebrity tattoo artist, JonBoy.

Since each of the tattoos are done freehand, a session can take anywhere from one to three hours to complete – it all depends on how many fingers are being tattooed and intricate the designs are.

He explained:

“The process of tattooing the nail is pretty much the same as tattooing the skin.

“The only major difference would be the actual application. The nail surface is stiff and often rigid.

“There’s no real pliability to it. You’re tattooing a small steady surface, also with skin if you go too deep you risk a blowout, but with the nail, you risk quite a bit more.”

And while the process may take a bit of time, it apparently doesn’t hurt too much.

According to Stapleton, it actually doesn’t hurt at all.

She told the publication that it can be “kind of therapeutic” and feels “like small vibrations”.

The tattoos don’t remain on your fingernails forever, though – Stapleton says they last put to six weeks, depending on your nail growth.

Still, though. We’re definitely thinking this would be awesome for awhile.
