Put Your Best Face Forward: Five Tips For Sleep-Deprived Skin

Her

Hectic days and lack of sleep can leave their mark on your skin.

At night, the skin fights damage caused by stress by producing an antioxidant hormone, melatonin.

Due to successive interruptions in the sleep cycle or a reduction in the number of hours of sleep, this regenerating is disrupted. Lower amounts of the hormone are secreted and damage linked to oxidation intensifies.

To celebrate the new Clarins Multi-Active range, here are five simple tips to help you stay radiantly beautiful, despite that busy lifestyle.

1. Drink plenty of water

While it’s tempting to reach for coffee after coffee to combat the tiredness, too much caffeine can dry out the skin. So instead of sipping on an Americano when that 3pm slump comes around, opt for a green tea or a good old glass of water. Water is the best way to counteract the dehydrating effects of caffeinated drinks.

2. Fill up on the right foods

Omega-3-rich foods, like sardines, salmon and other oily fish have anti-inflammatory properties that reduce irritation and promote smoother, more hydrated skin.

Blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and raspberries all have powerful antioxidant properties, which are so helpful in strengthening and protecting your skin. Kale and spinach will also fill your system with antioxidants, fibre and anti-inflammatory benefits.

3. Moisturise is key

Increasing hydration to the skin helps camouflage fine lines and protect stressed-out skin. Investing a good moisturiser will go a long way towards keeping your skin looking supple, youthful and refreshed.

Along with moisturising in the morning and evening, exfoliating the skin once or twice a week to remove dead cells from the skin’s surface allows new ones to emerge, overall giving your complexion a lift.

4. An overnight face mask

Applying a hydrating face mask before you go to bed and leaving it to soak in overnight is a great way to fend off the start of fine lines.

Choose the type of mask you use carefully. Over-moisturising can sometimes bring on breakouts, so use a breathable cream that’s kind on your skin.

5. Get the right amount of beauty sleep

When it comes to beating tired skin, a good sleep is hands down the best natural medicine.

Establishing a pattern with regular bedtimes and wake-up hours (even at the weekend) will go a long way to helping you get that sought-after radiant complexion.
