TikTok has become a treasure trove of beauty hacks, but every so often, one emerges that stands out for its sheer brilliance.
According to Dr. Aamna Adel, a dermatologist specialising in hair, micellar water is a game-changer for those struggling with greasy hair.
She shared her thoughts on TikTok, and they’re worth paying attention to.
“We all know and love micellar water for just removing even the heaviest of makeup,” says Dr. Adel.
The secret lies in the micelles - tiny molecules that act like magnets to draw out dirt, sebum, sweat, and makeup.
Dr. Adel explains: “The micelles in micellar water are literally like little magnets. They draw and suck up all of that dirt, sebum, sweat, and makeup and basically remove it.”
She went on to say that many TikTok users are spritzing micellar water onto their hair and blow-drying it without rinsing.
While effective, she believes there’s an even better way.
“Personally, I think this is a much better way of doing it: Soak a cotton pad and use a mattifying micellar water and then use that to rub your scalp and your hair.
“That way, you are actually going to remove all of that oil and dirt.”
Dr. Adel highlighted several benefits of using micellar water over traditional dry shampoos:
No White Cast: “If you hate the white cast that dry shampoo leaves, this is honestly such a great option.”
No Follicle Blockage: “I actually prefer this to those starchy dry shampoos because it’s not going to plug your hair follicles.”
No Product Build-Up: “It is not going to cause product build-up, and both of those things can lead to hair loss.”
Dr. Adel emphasised that while this hack is fantastic for a quick refresh, it’s not a substitute for washing your hair.
“Now, this definitely does not beat washing your hair, but if you are looking for a quick freshen up, this is 100% worth trying.”
So next time your hair needs a quick pick-me-up, reach for that bottle of micellar water.
