Okay so we admit it, the Her team are lipstick hoarders.
We have a lot of love for candy colours and eye-catching brights but there’s no denying that it can be daunting trying out a new shade for the first time.
If (like us) you’ve purchased a “wow” lipstick and relegated it to the back of your makeup drawer because you’re scared to wear it, celebrity make-up artist Nick Barose has a foolproof tip.
Nick, who’s worked with Hollywood stars Amy Adams and Lupita N’yongo, says that contouring is the secret to mastering a bright lip.

All you have to do is (and it will take a few practice sessions) use a deeper version of the same colour to give your pout a contoured effect.
It might sound a little mad BUT when you think about it, mixing dark and light shades is the perfect approach to a bright colour.
The deeper lipstick goes all over your lips. Then apply a dot of the second shade on the middle of your lips before blending.
And now, we’re off to try out different combinations to see what works…TOO. MUCH.FUN.
