Seven Struggles Those Of Us With Ridiculously Thick Hair Face

The struggle is VERY real.

Cathy Donohue

Whatever your hair type, there’s probably one or two things that drive you mad on a daily basis.

Fine-haired ladies may find that a curly blow-dry drops out after an hour and if your locks are thick and unruly, taking on your hair straightener is a battle in itself.

Here’s a few of the struggles those of us with heavy hair face.

Bobbins break. All of the time.

They break and the tiny little metal part pings against your knuckle and it’s sore.

It also means you go through a multi-pack of bobbins faster than you’d put away a Big Mac meal after a night out.

The actual effort.

A question asked by the hair experts is “how do you style your hair” and we find this one hilarious altogether.

To be honest, washing and drying it takes long enough, never mind “styling it”.

Irish weather.

When you finally get your hair in some sort of order, you only have to step outside the door and it’s ruined.

Even if it’s not raining, the ‘close’ humid weather Ireland often experiences means you’ll end up with a frizz ball akin to this Friends scene.

Sore arms.

Yes, really. Particularly when you’re attempting to blow dry it from scratch, section by section. You’d even try and get a Netflix episode in but then you can’t hear it above the hairdryer.

To be fair, it’s easier than arm day at the gym.

Perfect pony.

You look at girls with perfect ponytails and cry a little inside because your pony attempts NEVER look like that.

They never sit properly because there’s just too much hair.

Sweaty faces.

Yes, we know it’s grim but it’s the truth.

When you have a lot of hair and walk anywhere in a rush, your foundation slides off, eyeliner runs and your tresses take on a life of their own.

Great craic when you’re in the office bathroom trying to flatten your Sideshow Bob hair mare.

Even hairdressers can’t deal.

Hairdressers are trained to tend to our locks but even they can’t handle locks of the insanely thick variety.

Some familiar phrases that you may have heard before include “your hair is SO thick”, “how do you manage it” and the odd “you’re so lucky”.*
