We are obsessed.

The beauty of the ponytail lies in its versatility. It’s our go-to hairdo for trips to the gym or running errands, but it can also double as a super-chic look for special occasions.

While it can be fun to spend hours doing your hair, sometimes it’s even better to have an easy-to-achieve style that only takes a few minutes to put together, requires no upkeep, and still looks fabulous.

This messy ponytail trend has been popping up all over Instagram and TikTok recently. Its popularity is not surprising – it’s cute, it suits every face shape and best of all, it’s super easy. What’s not to love?

Kaley Cuoco rocked the effortless look for this year’s Emmy Awards, revealing through Instagram stories that it was a last minute decision.

While the actress pondered over leaving her hair down or not, her stylist, Christine Symonds, pulled her hair back into the messy ponytail as she had her make-up done. And the finished result is oh-so-elegant.

Plenty of other celebrities hopped on the trend, including Mandy Moore, who also chose the hairstyle for her Emmys look. The star paired it with a stunning red lip and gorgeous red dress.

Wondering how it’s done? Don’t worry, there’s an abundance of tutorials out there, like this one from taybeckerbeauty.

In this video, taybeckerbeauty starts by sectioning off the top section of hair and clipping it forward.

She then ties the remaining hair into a high ponytail, using her fingers instead of a hairbrush to achieve a messier look. Next, she releases the top section of hair and sprays it with volumising spray (this volume can also be achieved by teasing the hair with a comb). She then combines the top section with the ponytail, before pinching and pulling to make it as messy as possible. Simple.

We can’t wait to try!
