Our morning routine just got a lot easier.

Getting out the door on time is one of the hardest parts of our day.

Between getting our clothes, hair, and lunch ready to go sometimes we leave our makeup and skincare to the last minute.

We spoke to beauty expert and entrepreneur Daniella Scappaticci to ask her for some handy tips to make our mornings easier.

Here’s her advice.

Preparation is Key

As we all know when we start anything new; a diet or new routine of any kind we need to be prepared.

The same goes for your skin.  If you have good skin and look after it properly you really don’t need a whole lot of make-up.

The only way to achieve this is to prep the skin. Set out a good weekly skincare routine for yourself, nothing that is unachievable but a few simple steps that can easily slot into your busy lifestyle.

First, invest in a good cleanser.

This is key to your routine. Here are Daniella’s favourites:

  • Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution, for mature and dry skin
  • Keihls Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash, for combination and oily prone skin
  • Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, for  dry more sensitive skin.

How to cleanse properly

Buy a pack of cotton face cloths from Penneys or Dunnes (wash them first).  Start by putting a €1 coin size amount of cleanser in your hand and massage all over the face for around 1 minute.  Dampen your face cloth in warm/hot water and remove. Then repeat the step again. The reason we cleanse twice is because  the first cleanse removes make-up, dirt and grime that has built up throughout the day, while the second cleanse is really treating the skin.

Second, use a good exfoliator at least twice a week.

The reason you need to do this is to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This will polish the skin and will also help prevent dehydration because products will penetrate the skin at a deeper level.

Thirdly, use a serum.

Invest in an appropriate serum to go under your moisturiser. Serums generally have a higher concentration of active ingredients which hydrate the skin and keep it plump.

Here are Daniella’s favourites.

  • BRYT Skincare Boost Serum, this really is like a drink for the skin helping to banish and smooth those fine lines of dehydration.
  • Multi Vitamin Power firm by Dermalogica fantastic for those worried about premature ageing, age spots and deep lines.

The fourth and final step

And last but by no means least a mask. Ideally, you should try to use a mask 1 or 2 times a week.

Daniella’s favourite mask and the one Victoria Beckham called her “ambulance in a tube” is the Dermalogica Multi Vitamin Power Recovery Mask.

Once your face is properly prepped getting ready will be a breeze. By following these simple steps your skin will be more firm, hydrated and smooth making your morning routine a doddle.
