Non-comedogenic foundation could be the solution to acne-ridden skin

You might already own one.

Anna O'Rourke

We all get the odd spot but are you constantly trying to tackle acne?

You might want to switch up your foundation.

You’ve likely tried everything under the sun (including sitting out in the sun) to try and get the spots to budge, but your makeup base could be to blame.

Clogged pores are often to blame and if that’s the case for you, it’s worth trying a non-comedogenic foundation.

Comedone is just a fancy word for clogged pore – open comedones are what we know as blackheads and closed ones are whiteheads.

Those of us with oily skin tend to have more open pores, as Byrdie points out, meaning that we’re more likely to get build-up in the pores, leading to spots.

Non-comedogenic foundations are simply ones that are specifically formulated to avoid build-up in the pores and could go a long way to helping clear up problem skin.

Here are a few of our favourite ones.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Foundation

Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation

L’oréal Paris Pro-Matte Foundation

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Liquid Foundation

Other ones to try include Rimmel Stay Matte, L’Oreal True Match, Bare Minerals Bareskin and Nars Sheer Glow.
