The basic highlighter makeup fail that we just can’t avoid

Ugh.

Contour. Highlight. Strobe. Bake.

There’s a ridiculous amount of makeup techniques to get on board with and there’s one mistake that’s just so ridiculously easy to make.

Highlighter is so pretty and shiny and when you look at it in the packaging, you just wanna spread it all over your face.

However, that’s where things get messy and going overboard with highlighter is something makeup artists feel very strongly about.

Speaking to Allure, Kira Nasrat, who just so happens to work with Olivia Culpo (GIRL CRUSH) says “less is more”.

She says that highlighter should NEVER look heavy and too much of the shimmery stuff can look dull, which completely goes against the look you’re trying to achieve.

Ariana Grande’s makeup artist, Daniel Chinchilla, is pretty much on the same page, saying that people often apply highlighter all over the face, which only serves to make your skin look oily.

Instead, and believe me I’ve failed at this multiple times, stick to the areas of your face that catch the light:

  • Below your brow bones
  • In the corners of your eyes
  • Cupid’s Bow
  • Cheekbones and temples
  • Bridge of your nose
