The Beauty Buzz

This week we’re taking a look at the autumn/winter line from essence.

The Beauty Brand

essence is a German brand that’s widely available through department stores across the country. We’ve been big fans for a long time, as essence come up with all kinds of goodies and sell them for less than a fiver, which even on our worst wallet days we can usually stump up.

The Beauty Break-though

Where as there’s no show-stopper or new beauty technology on show this time around, they’re still going well past the basics with items like a nail and cuticle tattoo liner we absolutely love, a colour booster base coat for nails and a six colour line of 2 in 1 liquid lipsticks.

The Beauty Budget

As cheap as it gets. We’re talking starting points of €1.89 for the long lasting lip liner and the eyebrow fixing pencil. At the other end of the (very small) scale you can go wild and splash the cash on an eight-colour eyeshadow palette in greys or nudes for €4.99. Pocket change treats at their finest.

They Say: essence stands for trendy, unique and high-quality cosmetics products – at sensationally low prices.

As of August, the fall/winter season is about to become even more attractive with lots of must-have products that are joining the essence range. Cool looks with a wow-effect are guaranteed.

Nude and pastel are still the biggest trends of the coming season – but darker shades like grey and brown will also be flattering beauties from now on. Lots of highlights are coming this fall/winter: multifunctional mascaras, soft and hybrid lipsticks, foundations with a natural finish as well as the latest it-nail polishes – including trendy, dark nuances.

We Say: This collection is less trend-driven than previous hauls from essence, which in a way is quite nice. You’ll find a few budget staples in here and as always a range of products that lets you experiment without parting with the big bucks. The palettes offer surprisingly good pigmentation and we’re a big fan of having a “cheap treats” make up bag for nights out etc – items you wouldn’t cry over losing should the unthinkable happen. The mascaras are great buys too and the pure NUDE concealer could rival several of its pricer competitors. As is invariably the case with this brand, we’re in love with the polishes. We’ll be holding on to the new nail and cuticle tattoo liner too please and thank you.
