The Beauty Drop – “The Tan”

Fake a sun-kissed glow.

Cathy Donohue

In our new weekly feature we’re picking a highlight that’s landed on the Her.ie beauty desk and giving you the lowdown on the beauty break-through, the budget and the reasons you should buy…

The Beauty Buzz

“The Tan” is a concept dreamed up the brains behind Dublin salon, The Vanity Rooms. Jennifer Swaine and Jennifer Butler, known to many as “The Jenns”, believe their tan has something different to offer.

They say the hydrating formula doesn’t dry out the skin which means that horrible flaking effect (brought on by dehydrated skin after tanning) could well be a thing of the past.

It sounds like the dream so we had to put it to the test…

The Beauty Brand

Based in Stepaside, Co. Dublin, the ladies have an extensive customer base which they have built up over 20 years.

After some research, they realised that spray tans were one of their most popular treatments and after listening to feedback from customers, “the Jenns” wanted to introduce their very own tan.

The Super Hydrating Liquid Gel (250ml) is priced at €22.99 and the Gradual Day Bronzer (250ml) at €16.99.

The Beauty Break-through

It’s the ingredients in this tan that make it stand apart from its competitors.

Anti-aging sweet almond oil, nourishing shea butter, healing sunflower seed oil combined with the moisturising benefits of hyaluronic acid mean this tan is a game changer.

Using tan can dry out the skin but the ladies believe they have come up with the perfect formula to keep your skin smooth, supple and sun-kissed.

They Say: “We are so proud to be launching The Tan onto the Irish market.

“We are so lucky to have had great client & beauty therapist feedback over the years and we truly believe we have developed a tan that answers all of their usual concerns with tanning products (e.g. mainly smell, stickiness, fade & skin dryness).

“Packed full of skin loving ingredients, we feel our product will really stand out in the market”.

We Say: During the summer months, we’re all chasing that elusive summer glow and fake tan is an easy and safe way to go about it.

That said, it can be very annoying when you painstakingly apply an all over tan only to see patchy fade marks and spots appear after a couple of days.

 NOBODY wants this look…

We don’t always remember to moisturise after tanning to ensure a prolonged colour but after patting some on post-shower, we’re glad we did.

The result was a tan that faded away gradually over the course of a week, without any patchiness. YAY.

Regardless of what products you use, application is key.

Always exfoliate, apply moisturiser to rough areas (namely knees and elbows) a couple of days before fake tanning, and use a tanning mitt.
