Erm, turns out we’ve all been using Beautyblenders wrong this whole time

This goes against EVERYTHING we know.

The beauty hack that will definitely take you by surprise.

Once you start using a Beautyblender, you’re hooked and using your fingers or a foundation brush just doesn’t cut it anymore.

Why?

The sponge applicator allows for a smooth seamless finish coupled with the fact that it’s ridiculously easy to use.

However, it turns out that there’s a way to use it that you’ve probably never thought of.

As Beautyblender pros know, using it wet is far superior to dry because as its founder Rea Ann Silva previously explained to Refinery 29:

“When it’s wet, it becomes bigger, softer, and less thirsty. Instead of sucking up the makeup, it pushes it out onto the face.”

However, it turns out there’s another very specific thing you should be doing before using it to apply makeup.

Applying primer to the sponge itself.

Lijha Stewart, director and educator of Make Up For Ever, revealed the game-changing trick to Byrdie and explained why it works so well. Makeup guru said that she never applies primer directly to the face as it results in a “slippery barrier” (true that).

Applying it to the sponge first allows it to mix with your foundation and instead of it just melting off, the primer will actually do what it’s supposed to do.

If you regularly apply primer and find it’s making no difference at all to how long your makeup lasts, this trick is well worth a go.

As it’s a reusable sponge, a BeautyBlender should last you between three and four months once you’re cleaning it properly.

Blogger Sarah Rae Vargas recommends baby wash and warm water to clean her beauty blender and you can check out her routine in the YouTube video below.
