The number one mistake people make when buying foundation and how to avoid it

Always keep this in mind.

Cathy Donohue

Kepp this in mind and you won’t go too far wrong.

When it comes to choosing the perfect foundation, there are a few things to keep in mind, namely your skin type and the look you want to achieve.

A popular mistake made when buying a new base is opting for the wrong shade but thankfully, we have some expert advice to help avoid this common pitfall.

When testing shades in a shop, the base can look considerably different to when you actually go outside into daylight. Orange tidemarks and unsightly patches, no thank you.

Linda Cantello, an international makeup artist for Giorgio Armani, has a wealth of experience and thankfully she’s imparted some of that knowledge.

Her top tip?

“Choose your foundation based on your skin and desired result”.

“Never fight your natural skin shade and instead embellish what you have”.

How to apply?

Linda “always applies her base with her fingers but you can use a brush to optimise light” (which I have to say is an interesting tip I wasn’t aware of until now).

Always remember

“Even more than the lips and eyes, foundation is key to a makeup routine.

“Linda advises that your base “should vary with the seasons but you also need to account for how skin changes throughout the day or with age”.

Keep these three tips in mind and you should finally find your perfect base…YAY.
