There’s one makeup product that you should avoid using everyday

Cathy Donohue

Okay, this is a surprising one.

Primer is a key step in helping your makeup last the day and so, it makes sense to get into the practice of applying it each morning before concealer and/or foundation.

It might be another thing to remember before you get out the door but if it helps lock your base all day, we’re all for it especially in the humid, sticky weather of summer 2018.

However, according to one expert opinion, using primer every day isn’t the best idea.

In fact, it might even lead to breakouts and sorry what, tell us everything.

Speaking to Pop SugarAllan Avendañoa makeup artist at Starworks Artists, explained why using primer every single day should be avoided.

“Most primers are silicone-based and the silicone lays on top of your skin.

“It helps smooth over pores but can also trap sweat and oils in them, causing breakouts. Save them for special events or when you feel like your skin texture needs a bit of help”.

*Alarm bells*

So the makeup product you thought was doing great things for your skin can actually contribute to blemishes, FAB.

If you do use a silicone-based primer, MAC Prep + Prime, for example, Allan recommends using a cleanser that can properly remove the product each evening.

Try a clarifying cleanser like IMAGE Skincare’s Clarifying Clear Cell Gel Cleanser, €35, as it removes makeup while gently exfoliating skin so you can ensure all evidence of primer is properly eliminated.
