Acne is a distressing skin condition that can present in numerous different ways.

Whether you suffer from painful pustules or clumps of angry red blemishes, trying to find the perfect formula to banish acne is no easy task.

That’s why we’re all ears when we hear of any new ingredients, products or supplements that can help in the fight against this particular skin woe.

Although we’re used to hearing sandalwood mentioned in terms of perfume, one expert says it’s fantastic when it comes to treating a skin condition that so many of us battle against daily, from teens to adults.

In conversation with Refinery 29, dermatologist Francesca Fusco, MD, of Wexler Dermatology, gave this ingredient her seal of approval.

“Sandalwood oil has significant anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties”.

Of course, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic are two crucial must-haves for any product that will properly tackle spots and help get rid of them for good.

It’s not just Fusco either, the use of sandalwood oil treating skin conditions including acne is also used in traditional Chinese medicine practices and ancient Ayurvedic remedies.

There are numerous products containing sandalwood available but if your acne is severe, you may want to discuss it with your GP or dermatologist beforehand.

In addition to targeting your blemishes, sandalwood oil is soothing and calming which is why it’s often used in aromatherapy.

Treat your acne and chill at the same time, what’s not to love?!
