The thing we’re all doing wrong when it comes to applying setting powder

It's a tough habit to break though.

Oops.

As powder is usually the last step when applying makeup, we don’t always give it much thought and just blot some on quickly before heading out the door.

However, if you think about it, this application step should actually be given more care as powder is what holds your look in place, particularly if you don’t have time for primer and pore minimiser etc.

There are a few fails when it comes to powder, including choosing the right type as they’re not all the same. Translucent is a good bet if you’re a beauty beginner or just want to keep it simple for every day.

There’s another tip you’ll want to keep in mind and it’s linked to the way you apply your foundation.

The old-school method would be to let your base dry before applying powder but it turns out that’s not always the best idea.

Nor is dusting the powder on your face, instead you’ll want to press it on.

Daniel Chinchilla, an MUA and hair expert who regularly works with Ariana Grande, spoke to Allure about why this is the best method.

“Pressing it on will prevent the foundation from moving around or streaking in the process. It also allows the foundation to set better so it stays on all day”.

Again, Daniel says it is important to put your powder on when your base is wet and recommends using a flat-shaped brush or alternatively, a powder puff so you can properly press the product onto the T-zone.
