This Could Change How We Shop For Shampoo and Conditioner

Hair mares no more.

When shopping for shampoo and conditioner, we often choose the same brand for both but this expert tip has us thinking differently.

If you look at the back of a bottle of shampoo, it usually reads: “for best results, follow with the (insert relevant brand name here) conditioner.

However, one stylist is against this idea and thinks it could actually have a detrimental effect on your hair.

Speaking to Refinery 29, Matt Fugate said that companies base this idea on the type of hairstyle you want to achieve or ‘the chemical process’ rather than thinking about the individual’s hair.

When you think about it though, everyone’s hair is different and so, we should take this into account when product shopping.

Cosmetic chemist Susan Raffy is in full agreement saying: “Brands sell matching products because, well, they want to sell more product.

“By recommending that they work well together, they’re able to sell an entire line. A lot of it is marketing”.

If you’re going to mix and match, as these experts recommend, your shampoo should be based on your hair type i.e. thick, wavy, fine, colour-treated etc.

When it comes to conditioner then, buy products based on the type of look you want. So if it’s a straight sleek style you want, use something that will smooth your tresses.
