The beauty industry is constantly evolving and it feels like every day there's a new product or treatment available. At the moment, 'underarm microwaving' is making waves in the United States and although it sounds a little bizarre, it's an interesting concept nonetheless. Miramar® Labs recently announced that the U.S. Food & Drug Administration approved its MiraSmooth system for removing underarm hair. It's a pretty big deal too as this is the first FDA approved advice designed to treat both underarm hair and odour. Tina Alster, MD Director of the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery, described the new technology as "one-stop shopping" as you can treat both issues with one treatment. It has been termed 'microwaving' because the hand-held device emits microwaves which concentrate on the hair follicle or sweat gland. Laser treatments tend to work best on dark coarse hair but the MiraSmooth technology is colour-blind and so it can treat all hair colours. Alster described this as a "major coup" in the field of hair removal and although the FDA has only approved underarm hair removal thus fair, reports say it will expand in the future. H/T ELLE US
