Top 5 Tips For Doing Your Nails This Weekend

It’s the weekend which means there is a likely chance that you’ll be heading out somewhere that requires you to paint your nails.

1. They weren’t created to just sit in your cupboard. Base and top coats are an absolute must when it comes to painting your nails. The base layer which goes underneath the colour will protect your nails, preventing discolouration, and will make your colour last longer. The top layer which goes on after the colour coats helps to prevent chipping and adds extra shine.
2. Just like the professionals, try to paint each nail with three main strokes. Start with one down the middle and then one on either side of that. Whatever you do make sure there isn’t too much polish on the brush beforehand as this will just end up in a mess. Keep your hand steady and take your time. Don’t forget, three is the magic number.  
3. Put on two coats of your colour nail polish and remember that, like with clothes in the winter, two thinner layers are better than one thick one. By using two coats of polish your nails will look even and it will ensure that your chosen colour stands out. Furthermore, if you didn’t do too well with the first coating, you can still correct it with the second.
4. A common mistake when painting nails is not letting them dry properly before going about your ordinary business. This is why newly-painted nails end up getting chipped or smudged. Give yourself the time for your nails to dry. It usually only takes a couple of minutes and a couple of minutes doing nothing is better than an entire night with dodgy-looking nails.
5. When you have finished painting your nails (including the top coat) and let them dry, use a cotton bud dipped in nail polish remover to get rid of any nail polish that is on your skin or around the nails. Again take your time as you don’t want to accidentally take off what’s on your nails and have to start all over again.
