We’re hoping this was simply a case of human error.
Cosmetics brand Urban Decay are facing a lot of negativity on Twitter today after they posted an image promoting their All Nighter Liquid Eye Liner.
The image is of a wrist with multiple thin lines of swatches and the caption reads:
“Ready for some Razor Sharp Swatches, UDers?”

Users were quick to point out the connotations of the word razor and the think lines on the wrist that could be perceived as cut marks. The image could be triggering for anyone suffering from self-harm.
@littlemisstwita @UrbanDecay Your product’s marketing is your image. Making crude jokes – even unawares – is damaging to your PR.

@UrbanDecay UD seriously why did you have to draw comparisons to self harm?? It isn’t trendy or cool it ‘s a product of mental illness?

@UrbanDecay ….i really hope that wasn’t a self harm joke.

@UrbanDecay if you can’t respect those of us with a history of self harm find this triggering then I’m sorry that you lack human empathy.

.@UrbanDecay like, to be honest i’m just kinda disappointed/weirded out? like your brand just became about 500 times more unattractive to me

Other users were quick to defend the brand noting that swatches are usually tested on the forearm.
@UrbanDecay The fact that people think this is a self harm joke is beyond ridiculous. This is where/how I test ALL makeup.
