Ryan Gosling stars in the blockbuster of the year in Project Hail Mary, and readers are overwhelmed with excitement about the highly-anticipated movie. Project Hail Mary is a book that is heaped with praise. It comes with the most dedicated fanbase and a host of five-star reviews, but will the film live up to the book?
Readers have been eagerly awaiting the film's release (it's officially out in Ireland on March 19th, but you can catch early screenings on March 14th, 15th, and 17th) and are hopeful that the movie will be just as good as the book.
Many agreed that they couldn't wait to see a story they love so dearly come to life on screen.
One reader said, "Project Hail Mary is an amazing book about friendship, kindness, and humanity. Just what I needed in this terrible time in history. It will stay in my heart forever. When I heard about the movie, I was so so happy."
"Hands down, one of the best books I've ever read. I'm so excited to watch it come to life on screen. Wasn't excited like this for a very long time," said another.
One added, "It IS the best book I've ever read, and I cannot wait to watch it come to life. It's so inspiring to see the journey, the collaborations, and everything surrounding this beautiful project."
"Absolutely the best book I've ever read. I was in tears of joy and happiness while listening to the audiobook and I was in the middle of bad postpartum depression. It brought me out of that! Such an amazing book!" another added.
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company. His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it's up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery-and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species. And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he's got to do it all alone. Or does he?
Early reviews of Project Hail Mary have been nothing but glowing.
I was lucky enough to watch the film last week, and can confirm it is worth all the praise coming its way. The film is full of heart, wit, and a beautiful, unexpected friendship that will fill your heart (and eyes with tears). Gosling is as charming and endearing as Ryland Grace, the script is incredibly sharp, full of humour and heart, and the film is a visual wonder. Trust me when I say this is one movie you just have to see in IMAX.
This is the type of movie that is full of escapism; one that will capture you from the very first moment and stay with you long after the credits roll.
Readers say it's a life-changing five-star read, and there's no doubt they'll be unbelievably thrilled with how the film adaptation has turned out. It's a true credit to its source material.
Project Hail Mary is out in cinemas on March 19th.
