If you’re an Apple fiend, chances are you’ve been updating your phone with the latest model for the last number of years.

With record sales for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S plus, the latest rumours will see us holding an iPhone in the palm of our hand.

According to Mashable, the longer and wider screens of the iPhone 5 and 6 models will be replaced by a smaller 4-inch screen with a new metal design in early 2016.

According to a research note sent to MacRumours, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts the phone’s design will come with two or three colour options, and identical camera specifications as the iPhone5 with 8 megapixels rear-facing camera and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera.

Other suggested design elements include a glass front that curves slightly at the edges like on the iPhone 6S.

The move to make a smaller handset will be scrutinised following the disappointing iPhone 5C – which suffered issues with its plastic design and mediocre operating system.

The iPhone 5C was discontinued in September.
