HMV says “goodnight” as its Irish website officially shuts down

Michael Lanigan

“Hasta la vista, baby.”

HMV has officially left Ireland as it confirms the closure of the hmv.ie website.

Although the music and film retailer’s last five Irish stores were shut down during 2016 in a bid to continue as a digital outlet, it was announced on 7 April that the website would be ending too.

In a statement on the site, a spokesperson for the chain said: “We appreciate your custom over the years, however hmv.ie has now closed.”

However, it stressed, while no more orders can be placed on the website, the retailer will fulfill its commitment to sending out any items that may have already been purchased on the site recently.

“If you have placed an order online at hmv.ie, your order will be fulfilled.

“We are fulfilling all orders that have been placed before closure.”

Signing off with a few iconic movie gifs, including scenes from Terminator 2, Casablanca and The Truman Show, the statement said:

“It has been an honour to share our passion for Movies and Music with you and wish you all the best in the future.”
