Chris Pine has something to say about Harry Styles maybe spitting on him

Ellen Fitzpatrick

This is all too much.

Chris Pine has broken his silence on the viral video where Harry Styles appears to spit on him during the premiere of Don’t Worry Darling at the Venice Film Festival.

The pair sat beside each other in the theatre as well as co-stars Olivia Wilde, Florence Pugh and Gemma Chan on Monday, but one clip has fans more confused than any other moment in the film.

As Harry sat down, fans were convinced he spat on Chris as he took his seat, and Chris’s reaction seemed to have confirmed their theory.

But according to the man himself, all it is is a rumour or a theory, and the whole thing was our minds playing tricks on us.

His rep told PEOPLE on Tuesday: “This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation.

“Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine.

“There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

Don’t Worry Darling, an upcoming film from Olivia Wilde, has attracted a significant amount of press coverage and intrigue, and it hasn’t even been released yet.

From reports of a supposed feud between Wilde and lead actress Florence Pugh, alleged pay discrepancies (which have not been substantiated) and apparent inconsistencies in reports of Shia LaBeouf’s departure from the film, there’s been no shortage of drama.

Amidst a lot of drama on this film, Harry and Chris seemed to be going viral more than once as the two sat to be interviewed about the film.

The singer plays the male lead, opposite Florence, and during the press tour, he shared his thoughts on the film itself. In an interview, he said: “My favourite thing about the movie is that it feels like a movie. It feels like a real like, you know, go to the theatre film, movie, that you know, you kind of, the reason why you go to watch something on the big screen…”

Just, wow.
