In an interview with the Sydney Daily Telegraph, ‘The One That Got Away’ singer said she refuses to engage with her ex-husband, and says her opinions are made clear through her music: "[Ex-husband Russell Brand] hasn't spoken to me since he texted me saying he was filing for divorce. I don't want to talk about him – my songs will say what I need to say.” The former couple, who got engaged in 2009, tied the knot in October 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony in India. Fans were later stunned when Russell filed for divorce just 14 months later. The ‘Roar’ singer credits getting over her heartache by indulging her "little fearless invincibility streak”: "I'm excited by whatever it brings. I'm excited by my own evolution. I don't want to end up bittersweet." Speaking about her rekindled romance with John Mayer, the 30-year old said: "I always thought you could have a relationship and success. For a modern woman it's important to be supported and that there is equality in every aspect. It's not two halves that make a whole, it's two wholes that make a whole.”
