“People don’t understand what that interview did to me emotionally”

Kerry Katona broke down in tears discussing a past experience with Phillip Scofield.

She appeared on GB News last night and claimed her interview with Schofield on This Morning left her ‘suicidal’.

The former Atomic Kitten singer is no stranger to the This Morning couch but said she felt the 61-year-old was both “belittling and condescending” towards her during that interview.

Speaking to GB News host Dan Wootton, Kerry told of how Phillip Scofield questioned her on her slurred speech live on air back in 2008.

She said: “People don’t understand what that interview did to me emotionally.

“Even now, when I go back to ITV, which isn’t very often, there is a sense of snobbery and that I’m not good enough.

“I feel like I have to impress them, I’ve got to watch my speech, I can’t slur. It was just awful.

“I was suicidal. I wanted to die, I wanted to kill myself. It was everywhere.”

Kerry revealed that her slurred speech was caused by her bipolar medication.

Phillip Schofield interviewed Kerry in 2008 with Fern Britton who was his co-host at the time.

Kerry said that following the interview, she found it very hard to get work because brands didn’t want to work with her.

She said it impacted her life significantly and it took her a long time to get over it.

Fifteen years on from that sit-down chat, Kerry said she still feels ashamed rewatching it. She said: “Even now, when I look at that video, I feel so ashamed and so hard done by, even now. For ten years, I’ve had to justify myself.

“I’ve got no reason to lie [about the medication], even today I have to justify myself for that interview.”

Kerry has been sober for over ten years now.

During that interview, Phillip said: “I’ve got to ask you something, Kerry, because there will be a lot of people watching you now who would have followed your career and seen your ups and downs and really watched you lurch from crisis to crisis.

“As people, we’ve known you for a very long time, you don’t, if I’m honest now, seem right to me sitting here now.

“You got the body sorted but your speech is a bit slurred. How are you feeling?”

Kerry replied: “Is it? That’s probably because I have medication at night time which I took at about 11.30pm last night.

“Now, this is going to be made into a huge big publicity thing.”
