Lady Gaga has finally released a statement about R. Kelly

Olivia Hayes

It comes after a lot of fan backlash.

In recent days, fans of Lady Gaga have been reaching out to the singer and asking why she is staying silent about R Kelly.

Gaga famously worked with him back in 2013 – 13 years after he was first accused of sexual assault on minors – for the song ‘Do What You Want’.

The song was supposed to be about how the media and public talk and write about celebrities, but when you take into the account the history of R. Kelly, it takes on an entirely different meaning.

The lyrics were as such:

Write what you want, say what you want ’bout me
If you’re wondering, know that I’m not sorry
Do what you want, what you want with my body
What you want with my body! You can’t have my heart and you won’t use my mind but
Do what you want with my body
Do what you want with my body
You can’t stop my voice ’cause
You don’t own my life but
Do what you want with my body
Do what you want with my body

Surviving R. Kelly premiered last week. The documentary looked at the shocking sexual abuse allegations against R. Kelly that have built up over a 20 year period.

Artists like John Legend and Chance the Rapper, who worked with the performer in the past, went on the record admitting they were wrong to ignore R. Kelly’s alleged abuse for so long.

However, Lady Gaga stayed silent.

After receiving a lot of backlash from her fans, she has released a statement this afternoon.

Taking to her social media platforms, she posted the following message.
