Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have revealed the name of their new non-profit organisation.

The couple, who stepped back as senior members of the royal family at the end of last month, will be launching Archewell, their new organisation, “when the time is right.”

Harpers Bazaar report that the pair filed a trademark application with the United States’ Patent and Trademark Office last month.

And while they had hoped that it would remain a secret for the time being, the paperwork is in the public domain – so it didn’t take long for the information to surface.

The Sussexes released a statement on Monday detailing how Archewell came to be – and how it influenced the name of their son, Archie Harrison.

“Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global COVID-19 pandemic but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be,” they said, via the publication.

“Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’—the Greek word meaning ‘source of action.’ We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name.

“To do something of meaning, to do something that matters. Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon.”

The trademark list includes a number of different categories – from movies to online seminars, and just about everything in between. However, an insider told the publication that the vast list of trademarking categories was for “protection purposes only.”
