Add us as a preferred source on Google »Following on from the mass exodus at 2FM, a new set of hosts have begun their tenure on the national airwaves.
Taking over from the 2 Johnnies, who called it quits last month, was Lottie Ryan and David O’Reilly with their 2FM Drive with Lottie & David show on Tuesday.
The new show comes weeks after multiple departures including the 2 Johnnies, Jennifer Zamparelli and Doireann Garrihy.
Aiming to turn a new chapter for the station, the duo’s first time on the airwaves together received a rather mixed reaction from the public.
The pair brought their own spin on the daytime show, with segments including The Firepit – dedicated completely to all things Love Island – and Lottie-Lut, which sees the pair give away €1,000 to a lucky listener.
Listeners gave a mixed bag of reactions, however, when it came to the pair’s first show, with one saying: “Aww Lottie your dad would be beaming down with pride & proud.”
Another wasn’t so happy with the new show, saying: “I’m sorry but I can’t listen to these two at the same time and certainly not for 3hrs!”
A third made their preference for the previous hosts clear: “Unfortunately I’ve turned off 2fm now. Back to TodayFM. Listened to the 2 Johnnies everyday since they started.”
A fourth added: “Now that’s more like it 2FM! Good luck to both of you.”
Based off the reactions, the jury is still out on Lottie and David, but there were enough positive comments to suggest they’ll be do perfectly well on their new show.
Also on 2FM this week, Aifric O’Connell stepped in to replace Doireann Garrihy on the Breakfast Show, alongside Carl Mullan and Donncha O’Callaghan.
Dan Healy, head of 2FM, welcomed the new additions earlier this month: “2FM has always been programmed with a mix of presenters who have learnt their craft here with personalities from outside who have built a profile with younger audiences.
“It always starts with the audience first and this summer’s schedule is built with only them in mind.
“We will be working hard to continue to build a station with the next generation of 2FM presenters and there’s no shortage of those.”
