What we can expect from Emily in Paris seasons 3 and 4

Katy Brennan

Lots of eccentric fashion, of course.

Monday brought the glorious news that Emily in Paris would be returning for not one more season, but two.

The series was Netflix’s most popular comedy series of 2020 with its first season watched by 58 million households in just one month. It follows bubbly protagonist Emily Cooper as she moves from Chicago to Paris to pursue her career as a marketing executive.

Season two then saw Emily further embrace her new life in the French capital after stumbling into a complicated love triangle with her neighbour, Gabriel, and friend, Cami. Trying to stay away from the messy situation, Emily decided to strike up a new relationship with British heartthrob Alfie.

In the season two finale, she finally realised her true feelings for Gabriel, and rushed to his apartment to tell him, only to discover he had gotten back together with Cami.

Season three will no doubt delve into how things in Emily’s love life will unfold but biggest question it has to answer is – will she stay in Paris?

Our main character was left with a huge decision to ponder – continue to stay where she currently works at Savoir and the Gilbert Group or join her new French colleagues, Sylvie, Luc and Julien, at their new agency.

Staying with the same company where she made her reputation means going back to America and probably getting a huge promotion but taking a chance at Sylvie’s start-up company means new opportunities and adventures.

Lily Collins previously told People magazine that she has no idea what direction Emily is going to go in.

“I would love the opportunity to get to do a season three. I myself don’t know her choice yet. I keep asking! But whatever choice it is you know it will be filled with drama, fashion and a lot of fun and romance.

“I am down for whatever decision comes my way.”

However, Lily herself may be leaning towards saying au revoir to Paris.

“Selfishly, I hope that we get to go visit another city again,” she said. “That was such a blast getting to shoot in St. Tropez for two weeks. I think that’s always really fun.”

According to Variety, the next season is set to shoot once again at the Studios of Paris on the outskirts of the French capital in Spring or Summer. Some other locations being explored include London – which gives us the impression we haven’t quite seen the last of Alfie.

Show creator Darren Star, whose track record includes hit series like Sex and the City and Beverly Hills 90210 is currently finishing up the shoot of his new Netflix show, Uncoupled, — and will then be giving the writing of Emily in Paris season three his full attention.

We cannot wait to see what the next chapter has in store!
