Courteney Cox’s iconic Scream bangs are back, sort of

Cassie Stokes

Scream! The bangs are back!

To say I’m excited for the new Scream movie would be the understatement of the century. Having grown up having the life scared out of me by that mask, I can’t wait to see what they have in store for Scream 5.

Apparently, neither can Courteney Cox, because she only went and teased us with the perfect Instagram picture over the weekend.

The actor posted a photo featuring her infamous fringe from the movie with someone wearing the Scream mask in the background, either pretending to cut her fringe off or actually cutting her fringe off. Who can say for sure?

Since it was Halloween, we’re going to go with it being a fake fringe. The caption read: “Not the bangs!” – bangs, of course, being a fringe here on this side of the ocean.

Despite the obvious reference, not everyone thought Scream when they saw the photo, with some alluding to the time on Friends when Phoebe cut Monica’s hair. “I SAID DEMI MOORE. NOT DUDLEY MOORE,” etc.

56-year-old Cox has reprised her role as news reporter Gale Weathers for the latest Scream movie which started filming last month – a film that we’ve been waiting for since 2011 when the 4th one hit cinemas.

Courteney’s ex husband David Arquette is also back filming the latest flick. According to him, he’s the one responsible for the iconic fringe.

He told Entertainment Tonight: “The bangs were my fault. I have to admit, I was like, ‘Oh, you should do a like, Bettie Page thing, you know, just like, a little.’ That was my fault.

“I’ll take full responsibility. I mean they’re, you know, a professional hairdresser’s fault of course. And they didn’t really do Bettie Page kind of really blunt bangs. Like, that’s what the idea was.

“They tried to mess with them. You can’t. You have to go fully in.”

Scream 5 is set for release in 2022.
