“Wish these scenes could go on forever…”

The creator of Riverdale has announced when Luke Perry’s final episode will air – and it’s going to be emotional.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa announced on social media on Monday that this week’s episode [airing on Wednesday in North America, arriving on Netflix the following day in Ireland] would be Perry’s last.

The episode, titled Fear the Reaper, will feature the gang trying to rescue Jellybean after she is discovered to be missing (which they’ll seemingly do by playing Griffins and Gargoyles). Meanwhile, Josie McCoy begins to think about leaving town.

Aguirre-Sacasa said on Twitter that the episode will have Fred “imparting words of wisdom to Archie”, in a “beautiful, true moment between father and his son.”

He said:

“This week’s #Riverdale is the last episode Luke filmed.

“As always, Fred’s imparting words of wisdom to Archie. A beautiful, true moment between a father and his son. Wish these scenes could go on forever..”

The 52-year-old actor, who played Archie’s dad Fred Andrews, passed away in March after being hospitalised following a massive stroke.

Aguirre-Sacasa previously paid tribute to the late actor, confirming that the rest of the season – and “the rest of our run” – will be dedicated to him.

Alongside a sweet behind-the-scenes photo “from the early days”, he wrote:

“Going through pictures on my way to set. From the early days. With Luke in the middle. Our heart, always.

“Tonight’s episode of finds Fred doing what he does best–helping Archie. It is dedicated to Luke, as all episodes will be for the rest of our run.”
