The director of the Ted Bundy film starring Zac Efron has denied that his movie “glorifies” the serial killer.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile is set for release later this year and although most audiences have only been granted a look at the film’s trailer, many have already expressed concern that the movie is romanticising Bundy rather than focusing on the horrific acts he committed.

This criticism came following the release of the trailer which arguably depicts Bundy as more of a “bad boy” and less of a “necrophilic murderer.”

However, the movie’s director, Joe Berlinger, has denied that the movie is like this at all, and has said that once people see it, they will know that Ted Bundy is not “glorified.”

He told Bustle:

“I think the idea of this particular story, making a movie about Bundy, equals glorification of him is a very naive and knee-jerk reaction.

“If you actually watch the movie, the last thing we’re doing is glorifying him. He gets his due at the end, but we’re portraying the experience of how one becomes a victim to that kind of psychopathic seduction.”

During his active years, Bundy murdered at least 30 women across multiple US States.

He often used his charm and good looks as a means of trapping women and reassuring them that they would be safe in his company.

Bundy’s trial drew the attention of thousands of people across America and the world, as the public were left wondering how a wannabe lawyer and college educated man could have committed such heinous crimes.

He did though, so.
