It turns out we've been screaming the wrong words in each other's faces in Coppers all this time.
Mr. Brightside by The Killers seems to have made its way into the hearts of all Irish people because if there's three things we like; it's potatoes, drinking, and of course Copper FaceJacks on Harcourt Street.
Mr. Brightside warrants at least three plays on the same night out (well any of the nights I was so unfortunate to end up in Coppers) therefore it's second to Amhrán na bhFiann in the songs associated with Irish culture.
Well, the sly fecks that The Killers are, they've gone and embarrassed everyone as only 14 YEARS after releasing the tune, they've decided to divulge the lyrics in the song.
For the regulars of us who would sing:
"Coming out of my cage/And I’ve been doing just fine/Gotta gotta be down/Because I want it all"
Well, it turns out you're wrong. As am I. As is the NATION!
The Killers took to Facebook to reveal the "coming out of my cage" line is actually supposed to be sang as "coming out of Nic Cage..." referencing legendary actor and walking meme-generator Nicolas Cage.
14 years isn't a bit late lads to start correcting lyrics, no?
