The Blades have announced that they will return to The Olympia Theatre this December.
The punk legends are returning to the Dame Street venue on Saturday December 5th, after performing two sold-out Christmas show in Dublin in the past two years.
The band was formed in 1977 at a time where punk ruled Dublin, with bands like The Radiators from Space being among the talk of the Irish music scene.
The Blades also played a six-week residency with U2 at The Baggott Inn, with the bands swapping headline slots every week.
Hits including Hot For You, Ghost Of A Chance, The Bride Wore White and Revelations Of Heartbreak led to main songwriter Paul Cleary being named as the Songwriter of the Year ahead of Bono and Van Morrison, alongside victories for Single of the Year and Most Promising Act at the Hot Press Awards in 1982.
The band’s single collection Raytown Revisited is considered essential listening and is included in the book 101 Irish Albums To Hear Before You Die by Tony Clayton-Lea of The Irish Times.
