"Series six will not bring us any closer to present day - it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail."Imelda Staunton, who was cast to play Queen Elizabeth II for season five will continue in the role for season six. The two seasons will follow the relationship struggles of Princes Charles and Princess Diana, the break-up of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, the fire at Windsor Castle and, of course, the death of Princess Diana. Morgan said:
"As we started to discuss the storylines for series five, it soon became clear than in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story, we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons."As stated, the show will end at the beginning of the 2000s so will not delve into either Prince William's or Prince Harry's relationships and won't show either of the most recent royal weddings. Nor will it follow any of the drama surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepping back from royal duties. We're still delighted though - we'll take an extra season of the crown no matter what it's looking at, especially one starring Imelda Staunton. Lesley Manville will be stepping into the role of Princess Margaret, taking over from Helena Bonham Carter, and Emma Corrin and Gillian Anderson will also join the cast, playing Princess Diana and Margaret Tatcher respectively. We still don't have an official release date for the upcoming season four yet but, Covid delays not withstanding, we're expecting it to be released sometime this November.
