Netflix release statement about the future of House of Cards

Season Six is currently in production

House of Cards will be cancelled after its forthcoming season, which is currently in production.

The news comes on the same day that Kevin Spacey, who plays the role of Frank Underwood in the hit US political show, made an apology to Anthony Rapp after he accused him of making a sexual advance towards him when he was a child. Rapp, who is now 46 but was 14 years of age at the time, said Spacey invited him to a party and seemed drunk when the alleged incident happened in New York in 1986.

Despite the timing of the announcement, it’s reported that Netflix have claimed the decision to end the show after its sixth season was made months ago and was unrelated to the recent news concerning Spacey.

‘Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey,’ a joint statement from the two companies said on the allegations against Spacey.

‘In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.’

Earlier in the day, House of Cards’ creator, Beau Willimon, had also issued a statement in response to the allegations made about Spacey.
